How to Have Fun in Canmore with Kids
Canmore is one of the best places to vacation in Canada, just a few minutes outside of Banff National Park and near enough for a quick road trip from Calgary. If you are looking for your next family vacation spot, or the perfect place to invest in a vacation home, Canmore might just be the perfect place. There are plenty of fun things to do with the kids in Canmore; check out this list of a few of our favourites.
Canmore Nordic Centre
Site of the 1988 Winter Olympics, the Canmore Nordic Centre is the perfect place to enjoy some family fun in Canmore during the winter. Try out cross country skiing or rent some fat tire bikes to explore the snow covered grounds. You'll also have the chance to go ice skating, tobogganing, or snowshoeing.
If you visit during the summer months, there is still plenty to do! The park features mountain biking trails, disc golf, a bike skills park, a roller ski loop, a biathlon range, and more.
Stop into the Day Lodge for a full service cafeteria to enjoy family friendly food ready to fuel you up for the rest of the day of adventuring.
Elevation Place
Looking for somewhere to have fun inside in Canmore? Check out Elevation Place. This is a community recreation centre like you've never seen before, and one that will have your kids thrilled. Elevation Place features a lazy river, waterslide, kiddie pool, and a 25-person hot tub that are all inside so you can enjoy them any day of the year. You'll also find a massive rock climbing gym, with pitches for all ages and skill levels. If you're looking for a peaceful spot to read on vacation, check out the charming library.
Policeman's Creek Boardwalk
If you're not yet sure how much hiking your kids can handle, introduce them gently with a stroll on Policeman's Creek Boardwalk. The 3.9 kilometre boardwalk runs along peaceful Policeman's Creek. It's a scenic walk without much elevation change, even suitable for a stroller. You will see ducks swimming, hear songbirds, and enjoy gorgeous mountain views without a strenuous trek.
There are a variety of other family friendly hikes to enjoy in Canmore, too! Grassi Lakes Trail is a favorite, located just outside the Canmore Nordic Centre. Be sure to pay careful attention to signage at the fork in the trail, as one path will take you along a gentler hike to a magnificent view of the lake, while the other is much longer and more challenging.
Enjoy one of Canmore's Amazing Restaurants
Canmore may be a small mountain town, but it is home to some seriously amazing restaurants. A few of our favourite family friendly eateries include:
- The Iron Goat Pub & Grill, for impressive views of the Bow Valley, delicious gastro pub style food, and an extensive kid's menu with something for everyone
- Rocky Mountain Flatbread Co., where you will find delicious pizzas with a wide range of gourmet toppings. What kid doesn't love pizza? They also make it extra family friendly by offering a pizza oven play set for tots to enjoy while waiting for their meal.
- The Market Bistro, located in the Three Sisters area, is clearly designed with kids in mind. Their elevated French-inspired menu will wow the adults, and the toys ready to entertain will wow the kids.
