South Canmore Homes for Sale

Location: South Canmore is the residential area south of main street bounded by the Bow River to the west (and south) and Policemen’s Creek/Spring Creek Mountain Village to the east. The streets are laid out on a grid pattern as part of the original 1885 town plan (that included downtown and teepee town—see legal base plan 1095F).

Besides the proximity to downtown establishments and the river pathways, South Canmore has two important public areas. First, between Fourth and Sixth Street and between Fifth and Seventh Avenue are Centennial Park, Lawrence Grassi Middle School, and Canmore Day Care. Here people gather for Canada Day celebrations, the Folk Festival, Highland Games and other community affairs. Besides an outdoor stage, there are public washrooms, a children’s playground, running track and all-weather fitness equipment. From the centre of the field, one has a 360° view of the mountains surrounding the town.

The second important public locale is Millennium Park which has both a baseball diamond and multi-use playing field for soccer and so forth.

The Canmore Miner’s Hall and several churches are also in the vicinity.

Building Mix: Original dwellings there were mainly single family homes, but a zoning revision to R4 on blocks close to Main Street has subsequently led to considerable redevelopment of the area with duplexes and four-plex units built in the past twenty years.
